Most Slow Sharks in the World

Recent studies have revealed that the Greenland shark is a shark with the slow movement in the world. The shark movement speed 2.73 miles per hour. With that speed, the whale shark is a fish too late when compared to their size.
Yuuki Watanabe of the National Institute of Polar Research in Tokyo marker makers put the data on the shark to determine the speed and frequency of movement of the tail in six Greenland shark. The measurement results were compared with the speed and frequency of movement of other fish.

Based on these measurements, the average frequency of movement of Greenland shark is nine cycles per minute. Comparison shows the average movement of the tail and the tail movement maximum Greenland shark is the slowest. Similarly, the speed of motion when compared to other sharks.

Tail movement reflects the speed of muscle contraction. The lower the temperature, the slower pace of contraction as well. Therefore, scientists suspect that the slow movement of Greenland sharks affected by low ambient temperature.
"We think that the slow speed of movement Greenland shark may be related to the low temperatures in the Arctic Sea. Many physiological processes, including muscle contraction, slows down with decreasing temperature, "said Yuuki Watanabe told Discovery.
Analysis of the Greenland shark stomachs in other studies been done before. Researchers suggest that there are a lot of sharks in the stomach of fish, including fresh seals. How can a shark swallow a seal, it is still a mystery.
One hypothesis, shark might take a sleeping seal. Seals often sleep with floats on the sea surface. With the movement slow and easy, Greenland sharks can eat seals sleep.
As a predator, Greenland shark size is not too big, just over 6 feet and weighs 997 pounds. Killer whales are very likely to eat shark Greenland. Type of shark it was choose to live in the deep ocean, where killer whales are rarely stopped. The study was published in the Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology.
