Skull Lake

Tucked away in a remote corner of the Himalayas at an altitude of 5029 meters (16,500 feet) in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, Roopkund holds a very interesting mystery.
Better known as the 'Lake Skull' from national park rangers came to the place and found a mass grave containing about 300-600 framework.

After the discovery in 1942 was awesome, skull Roopkund lake has produced phenomenal sensation. A frozen lake is remote and uninhabited, which requires a four-day trip to get there from the nearest village location, has become a hotspot for study and speculation.

The process of carbon dating performed on these frameworks reveals that these frameworks dead man around the 12th century to 15.

Basically, it is assumed that the deaths were caused by some form of natural disasters such as landslides, snowstorms or epidemics. However, controversy still evolving to this day among the local population, anthropologists and sociologists.

Some people connect with local folklore. More estimates that the frames are from a variety of causes such as those of Tibetan traders who wander or have lost, and those who commit ritual suicide, as well as the defeated army, etc..

In 2004, a team of European and Indian scientists sent by the National Geographic Channel visited Roopkund to continue his research. Their research has unearthed interesting clues and information. Part of their findings includes anthropological treasures like well-preserved corpses, jewelry, bones and skulls.

By doing DNA tests on these frameworks researchers have found that these skeletons belong to two different groups. One group is characterized by shorter stature views of the skeleton while others are significantly higher.

The first group is the possibility of a local craftsman or porter, while the second group included the possibility of members of the same clan with the first group.

More recent radiocarbon dating carried NGC team, revealed that there has been a data error on the chronological dating before. Kerangk-frame is considered to originate from the 9th century.

The scientists of London and Hyderabad examine the skull to see if the frames are broken bones, which they regard as a result of the rainstorm accompanied by an ice ball (Hailstorm) suddenly. The ball of ice that occurs here an unusually large volume - the average size of a tennis ball.

No wonder that anyone affected by Hailstorm in Garhwal Himalayas will mercilessly destroyed. Freeze and blow huge ice balls contributed to their holocaust.

And it is estimated that more than once, the landslide has struck Roopkund ever since the death of the person. Avalanche is the bury some of the bodies to the bottom of the lake, where the bodies were still found intact, preserved under the ice.

Even if the theory of the cause of this tragic death is true, there is one more question that follows and confusing. That is about where these people went. Roopkund bukanlahh a historically significant region and no traces of any trade routes to Tibet have been found here. Roopkund is also not an attractive pilgrimage site for a large group of people.

However, the documentary 'Lake Skull' made by National Geographic Channel (NGC) have dispelled this assumption. In the film claimed that Roopkund NGC is a place for the Garhwali religious festival called 'Nanda jaat yatra' held in every 12 years.

A procession consisting of four horned ram a newborn is considered as the incarnation of a goddess paraded from the nearest village and taken to Roopkund.

Possibility kerangk-frame on this lake are those of the cult who participated in a mass procession of a few centuries ago. Of folklore, said that a certain king had participated in the ritual 'yatra' by bringing the female dancers. But this had offended the goddess Nanda, thus attributing to them Hailstorm.

Folklore may just fairy tales, but it is very likely that at least a higher body is the body of the members of the royal and the body is shorter, scattered throughout the lake is a local porter all likelihood killed by Hailstorm.

Whatever the cause of their death, no one really knows what causes so many people to do a lot and tiring journey centuries ago.
